What is the TSC Alliance Community Leadership Program?
The TSC Alliance Community Leadership Program is a network of dedicated volunteers who help raise awareness of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), provide support to those affected by TSC, and help organize local events and fundraising activities. Volunteers are essential in building a stronger TSC community by acting as ambassadors within their regions.
Who is eligible to volunteer in the Community Leadership Program?
Volunteers must be at least 17 years old to serve in a leadership role. We welcome adults, parents, grandparents, siblings, and individuals affected by TSC to join our program and help make a difference in their communities.
What training is required for volunteers?
Volunteers are required to complete our Onboarding and Orientation Training, which includes printed resources, pre-recorded videos, and live Zoom calls. Training ensures you are equipped with the knowledge and tools to succeed in your volunteer role.
What are the key responsibilities of a volunteer leader?
As a volunteer leader, you are responsible for maintaining updated contact information for yourself and others in your region, tracking and reporting monthly peer-to-peer engagements, attending quarterly leadership meetings, and participating in key events like the Volunteer Leadership Summit. You are expected to act with respect, compassion, and professionalism in all interactions with others.
What are the opportunities for advancement in the program?
Volunteers can move into higher leadership roles by demonstrating dedication and commitment to the program. Leadership positions include mentoring new volunteers, hosting events, and assisting in broader initiatives. Volunteers may also be invited to participate in advisory boards or additional training opportunities.
How long is the volunteer term of service?
The standard term of service for a volunteer leader is three years, with the third year focusing on transition or mentorship. At the end of your term, you may choose to renew your commitment or transition out of your leadership role.
What kind of support do volunteers receive?
Volunteers receive mentorship from seasoned leaders and the TSC Alliance, as well as training throughout their term. You will have access to community outreach tools, regional resources, and a support network. The TSC Alliance covers expenses for attending the Volunteer Leadership Summit and offers reimbursement for certain expenses related to your role.
How can I get involved with the community leadership group?
You can join the Community Leadership Facebook Group, which is a platform for sharing information and networking with other volunteers. The Community Hub will also be an important resource for engaging with other leaders and accessing tools and materials.
What is the volunteer code of conduct?
Volunteers are expected to maintain ethical, professional conduct in all activities. This includes being respectful, honest, and transparent in all interactions. We encourage a positive and supportive environment for everyone involved in the program.
What happens if I need to take a break from volunteering?
We understand that volunteering can sometimes be demanding, and we encourage you to contact the TSC Alliance if you need to adjust your commitment or take a break. We are committed to working with you to accommodate your needs.
How do I report my expenses for reimbursement?
If you incur any eligible expenses during your volunteer work, you must submit receipts along with a completed expense report. Expenses should be submitted within 30 days of occurrence, and any December expenses must be submitted by December 31.
What is the TSC Alliance’s policy on harassment and discrimination?
The TSC Alliance has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying. This includes actions or statements related to race, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected category. Any instances of inappropriate behavior should be reported to the TSC Alliance for investigation and resolution.
How can I use the TSC Alliance logo in my materials?

What is the cancellation policy for events?
Volunteers are asked to communicate any conflicts that prevent them from attending key events like the Volunteer Leadership Summit or training sessions. If you cannot attend, please notify us as soon as possible so we can make adjustments.
What is the process for resigning from a volunteer leadership role?
If you wish to resign from your volunteer leadership position, we kindly ask that you submit a written notice stating your intention to resign and your last day of service. We request a minimum of one (1) month notice, except in cases of family or medical emergencies, to allow for a smooth transition and the continued success of the program.
What happens if I need to resign with less than one month’s notice?
While we encourage a one-month notice, we understand that emergencies happen. If you need to resign without the standard notice, please inform the Community Programs Manager as soon as possible. We will work with you to ensure the transition is handled as smoothly as possible under the circumstances.
Can a volunteer be terminated from their role with the TSC Alliance?
Yes, the TSC Alliance reserves the right to dismiss any volunteer whose actions do not align with the organization’s mission or who violates the TSC Alliance policies, procedures, or the specific responsibilities outlined in their role. Termination is typically a last resort, and the volunteer will be informed of any issues leading to the decision.
How will I be notified if my volunteer role is terminated?
If your volunteer role is terminated, you will be notified in writing by a Community Programs Manager, who will explain the reasons for the decision. You may also have the opportunity to discuss the matter further with the appropriate individuals within the organization.
What is the TSC Alliance’s policy on conflicts of interest?
Volunteers are expected to avoid any situations that could create a conflict of interest between their personal interests and the interests of the TSC Alliance. This includes avoiding relationships or dealings with individuals or organizations that may present a conflict when volunteering. If you believe there is a potential or existing conflict, you must disclose it to the Board of Directors and the President & CEO before taking any action.
How do I disclose a conflict of interest?
If you have a potential or actual conflict of interest, you are required to disclose it in writing to the Board of Directors and the President & CEO. This disclosure should be made before any action is taken that could affect the interests of the TSC Alliance.
What happens if I fail to disclose a conflict of interest?
Failing to disclose a conflict of interest may result in corrective action, including termination from the volunteer leadership role. Transparency is crucial to maintaining the integrity and trust of the TSC Alliance and its mission.
How often do I need to review the conflict of interest policy?
